Holiday Giveaway x2

As I am deep in the Revision Cave – and it also happens to be my final post before Christmas – what better time to offer a book giveaway. *happy sigh* My favourite thing to do, and I’ve not been able to afford to do it as much as I’d like… so let’s put that straight right now! Here is a giveaway with a bit of a theme. ;)

There will be two winners. First prize winner gets to choose from the following two mini-book bundles. (Please note: these are all books that I’ve read and enjoyed, so they come with my recommendation. If you’ve not tried any of these series before, you’re missing out!)

Prize Pack #1:
The first books in two great urban fantasy series.

Book One of Jocelynn Drake‘s Dark Days, NIGHTWALKER, and Book One of Diana Rowland‘s new urban fantasy series, MARK OF THE DEMON.

nightwalker Mark of the Demon_Rowland1

Prize Pack #2:
Two second books in a couple of other dark UF series.

Book Two of Phaedra Weldon‘s Zoe Martinique series, SPECTRE, along with the just-released second of Caitlin Kittredge‘s brilliant Black London books, DEMON BOUND.

spectre demon-bound1

Leave a comment on this entry telling me about an urban fantasy series you’ve recently tried and loved (or an old favourite), and I’ll draw the two winners at random – in first and second place. Contest is open to all.

The first prize winner gets the book pairing of their choice, the second has to take whatever’s left. Closing date for entries is end of the day Saturday 19th December 2009, and I’ll post the winning names on Sunday.

Cheers, and whatever and however you celebrate, happy holidays! :)

Patricia Briggs’ Mercy series got me on an urban fantasy kick, which lead to me picking up Devon Monk’s awesome series. Now I’m slowly checking out other authors as pocket money allows :)

  2. SusiSunshine says:

My all time favorite urban fantasy series is the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. I so love her world building and her shifters are just perfect.

Another good one is the Allie Beckstrom series by Devon Monk. Book 3 was near perfection in my opinion.

    Happy Holidays to all!

  3. Jan van Es says:

I started reading Keri Arthur’s Riley Jenson series and suddenly found Devon Monk’s awesome series. I’m always in for something new!

  4. Amanda says:

I only began reading Urban Fantasy this year and I have a soft spot for the series that got me hooked. Kat Richardson’s Greywalker books pulled me into a whole new genre and now I can’t get enough! :-)

Thanks for a great giveaway and happy holidays Karen!

  5. Dan says:

The most recent I’ve started is Caitlin Kittredge’s Black London books, actually. I started Street Magic and was thinking that the writing was worth reading the book, but it wasn’t really my thing. But by the end, I was looking forward to Demon Bound.

  6. Darla G says:

Oh crap there’s a lot to choose from. But one of my favorites is the Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

  7. mizmode says:

Diana Pharoah Francis’ new Horngate Witches series. I read the first book, Bitter Night, a few weeks ago and it was really good. I can’t wait for the next book.

  8. I recently started Jordan Summers’ Dead World Series. Really liking it so far :D

  9. Lisa B. says:

My favorite UF series is Keri Arthur’s Riley Jenson Guardian series. And I just got Bound to Shadows. Can’t wait to dive in.

  10. SarahKay says:

  11. Jess says:

My fave is hats off Dame Lili’s Kismet series :)

  12. Lingeorge says:

Sheeze, where to start. I loved Mercedes Lackey’s Chrome series and Bardic Voices, so I started with elves in today’s world….That brought me to the right section of the bookstore. Then Kelley Armstrong’s Bitten caught my eye and ever since I have been addicted! Jenna Black’s newsletter introduced me to Deadline Dames and I am working my way through devouring each of your various series. Thank you for helping me find Great Books!!

  13. Sam says:

I’ve started reading Dame Lili’s Dante Valantine Series, and Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series. Both are amazing and were hard to put down. :)

  14. Amanda Leigh says:

I just read the first book in Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series and can’t wait to read the rest. I also just start the Black Dagger Brotherhood series!

  15. Magaly says:

I recently tried The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost and I’m absolutely hooked! I have two old time favorites: Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon and the Hollows Series by Kim Harrison, those two ladies ROCK!

I recently tried and loved the new series by Seanan McGuire. Really looking forward to the next installment.

  17. Jen D. says:

I tried and loved Keri Arthur’s Riley Jenson series. I’m sad that it’s coming to an end. =(

  19. Linda D. says:

Kim Harrison’s Hollows series definitely. Also, I’m in the midst of Ms. Saintcrow’s Dante Valentine series which is also very good. ;)

  20. Julia P. says:

I suppose Charles de Lint’s “Dreams Underfoot” was my genisis urban fantasy book. I love a lot of what was mentioned above (Briggs and Harrison being two of my all time favorites, regardless of genre). Something new that I just read and can’t wait to follow up on was Seanan McGuire’s Rosemary and Rue. I stopped several times while reading to consult the Internets… there was so much backstory I was convinced I must have accidentally missed the first book in a series. Can’t wait for the next one to come out in March!

  21. TerinL says:

My favorite is the Night Huntress by Jeaneine Frost, with Rachel Vincent’s Shifters and Ilona Andrews’ Magic series getting honorable mentions.

  22. My favorites have include Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series and Kelley Armstrong’s Underworld books. For something new I’m reading Rob Thurman’s Trick of Light book and Ann Aguirre’s Blue Diablo. My TBR pile is about to fall over! There are so many good books out there waiting to be read.

  23. There are so many of them… I love Jim Butcher’s stuff, Ilona Andrews and just read the first Harry Connolly book, Child of Fire and am going to have to make shelf space!

    Jana

  24. Dawn Y. says:

I really like Toni Andrews’s Mercy series. And Devon Monk’s Allie Beckstrom series. I also like Caitlin Kittridge’s Greywalker series (correct author with the series?). It’s difficult to choose a favorite – they are all so great!

  25. Jo says:

Awesome contest, thank you! I’m currently reading Curse the Dawn, the fourth in Karen Chance’s Cassie Palmer series, and I love it! I wasn’t too keen on the first in the series, but with encouragement from people who had read further, I picked up the second.. then the third.. then the fourth! This series is amazing, and gets better with each book. I absolutely love it!

  26. Van P. says:

Great contest! I love Ilona Andrew’s Magic series, and Jeaniene frost’s Night Huntress novels. I currently just started Lisa Shearin’s Rain benares series, and so far so good.

  27. Axisor says:

I just finished reading Kelley Armstrong’s Awakening (Read it all in one day… I’m salivating for the next one) and I’m reading Devon Monk’s Magic in the Bone which is great.

the first book that I think really turned me on to Urban Fantasy was C. E. Murphy’s Urban Shaman. I got it in audio format and was looking for chores to do so I could keep listening :)

  28. Crystal R. says:

I think this one has already been mentioned, but I don’t see that as a reason not to give it my two thumbs up. Ilona Andrew’s series: Magic Burns, Magic Bites, Magic Strikes is a great series. The world she has created is so tangible and exciting. I hope all of you guys give her stuff a try.

Thanks for the giveaway…you dames are very generous.

  33. Christine M. says:

I’m about to start Nalini Singh’s second series and Caitlin Kittredge’s Black London. As for the others, I’m reading about 15 different series, 2/3s of which I need to catch up on (ie. my TBR pile is *huge*).

  34. Emily says:

Recently tried The Jill Kismet series by Lilith Saintcrow, as well as her Strange Angels. LOVED both!!! Can’t decide who I want Dru to end up with….’sits on fence’ :)

  35. Lulu says:

Jim Butcher’s Dresden series (be still my heart!) and Cheyenne McCray’s witch series.

  36. Heather C says:

I just finished Tempest Rising by Nicole Peeler, and I absolutely loved it!!!

  37. Heidi C. says:

Urban Fantasy is my favorite genre by far! As for as my favorite…..that’s just mean to ask me that with sooo many of my favorite authors around here. I have 5 main favorite series, depending on which one I’m currently re-reading at the time. Soooo I guess I’ll have to go with Richelle Mead’s Succubus Series (cause I’m currently re-reading it). But if you ask me again next week, you’ll probably get a different answer. ; )

  38. Charliana says:

Kelley Armstrong’s Bitten was the book that kicked off my relatively recent and now obsessive reading of Urban Fantasy so will always be a favourite.

My current favourite series is Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty series – I’ve just got the friend who got recommended Bitten hooked on it! (Would also like to give a shout out to Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series, Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series, The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost and Jenna Black’s Morgan Kingsley series – if you haven’t read them start now!)

Love finding new series though and haven’t read any of the authors in the prize packs so will have to hunt them out. Thanks for the new author ideas! (am currently trying to read the books written by Deadline Dames I haven’t read yet, so might be a while before I get to any others…)

    Happy holiday reading everyone!

  39. elaing8 says:

my all time favorite is Keri Arthur’s riley jensen Series.A series I just recently started and like is Jeaniene frost’s Night Huntress Series.

  40. Mariska says:

well, since i’m currently reading Jeri-Smith Ready, Wicked game, i’m gonna say this is my favorite so far.

the giveaways list that you have, all of them are a new author for me. i’d like to have the chance to try them if you pleased :)

  41. Jessica S. says:

Hmm….a recent series that I picked up just this year, besides a handful of new authors, was Devon Monk’s Allie Beckstrom series or Magic series. I really loved it! I am almost getting to the third one that was just released in Nov. I’ve had a lot to do this semester and am just now getting to my reading. I get to Magic in the Shadows possibly by Thursday.

Another series I picked up was Richelle Mead’s Dark Swan and Vampire Academy series because some online friends highly recommended them.

Then as I said, a lot of new authors I picked up, like Jaye Wells and ony my TBR pile I have Nicole Peeler’s Tempest Rising, which I cannot wait to read. But since I was going in order of release dates to the authors I have read, it currently sits at number 5 to be read after my current read.

The list could go on, but I think I wrote enough for the contest entry!

  42. Nikki B. says:

Wow…its so hard to choose a favorite series but I could narrow it down to three!!! Shifters by Rachel Vincent, Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost & Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews are all simply AMAZING! As for the newest one I’ve read that I enjoyed is the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning!

  43. A recent for me would be the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill. Love that series! Chloe is very talented.

I hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas!

  44. Firewolf says:

I just read Soulless by Gail Carriger. I’m looking forward to the next one!

    Happy Holidays.

  45. Julia says:

Well – I have to be honest – I have not read an urban fantasy series! *hangs head* – although I did read Wicked Lovely (does that count?) So, see, I need to win so I can dive into urban fantasy! lol!

  46. celsie says:

I finally got Pride by Rachel Vincent, and enjoyed delving back into the world of Werecats. I have been going back to the old series by LJ Smith & Anne Rice recently, though. Not sure those count as Urban Fantasy…

I just finished reading Rob Thurman’s Trick of the Light and enjoyed it very much. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series eagerly.

Some weeks ago I’ve discovered Faith Hunter. I’m not able to express how much I’m in love with her new series. “Skinwalker” is an amazingly well written book featuring a vibrant setting (New Orleans), an exciting plot and a tough heroine with heart, common sense and a split personality. How cool is that?!

  95. Karen,
I love to come to this site and read all the wonderful stuff the Dames are up to and wow what a fantastic thing you are up to now, nice giveaway…
My favorite series reading now would have to be the one just got #3 book for last week in the Dog Days Series written by John Levitt, it is the funniest series for me and also the saddest at times. Magic, mayhem, murderous otherworldly beings and lots of adventures with Mason the magical practitioner enforcer his familiar Louie. Louie is an Ifrit familiar who has proven time and again he is man’s best friend and keeps Mason from dying in the books more times than should have to. There are many more series out there am reading and could write about them all day but reading “Unleashed” (book #3) now so it qualifies….

  96. Gloria says:

  98. Brenda B. says:

Actually I have not read any that I recall but have read over 3,000 books in over 50 yrs. all geares.. LOL I do have Sherrilyn Kenyon and her Dark Hunters on my list of books to buy.
