Dames at RT

Warning: I am writing this directly after the RT Booklovers Convention in New Orleans. I cannot guarantee that I will be able to express myself as clearly as I might hope, thanks to the phenomenon known as “RT Brain.” (The most prominent symptom of RT Brain is a propensity for staring blankly into space, which I seem to have mastered this afternoon.) So, as you may have guessed, I have been in New Orleans for RT. Happily, Dames Jackie, Rachel, and Keri were also there, and we had time to hang out with each other a bit.

This is the four of us after a delicious dinner at Mr. B’s Bistro. Note how I cleverly covered the table in front of me with my napkin so you can’t see the mess I made while battling my peel-and-eat shrimp. After dinner, the four of us (and my husband, who was there at the beginning of the week) took a stroll down Bourbon Street, which is a unique experience. (Yes, we have photographic evidence, but the photos didn’t turn out very well so you’ll just have to use your imagination.)rt1

The Dames also participated in several rounds of shoe shopping, though one of them was forced on us by a sudden downpour that trapped us under the awning of a closed shoe store. Cruel and unusual punishment! Early on, Keri, Jackie, and I participated in the Never Give Up panel (click the link to see a photo and a summary of the panel), with Stacy Kade and Linea Sinclair. Three Dames on a single panel! The fabulousness was fabulous! (See what I mean about RT Brain?)

Saturday was the ever-popular Giant Book Fair, and all four of us Dames participated. I don’t know about Jackie, Keri, and Rachel, but two days later, I’m still a little hoarse after having to shout over the din of so many people talking excitedly at once. (And let’s not even talk about the PA announcer, who pronounced “author” rather like “Arthur” and confused us many times over.)

And one last thing . . . If you like the shawl I’m wearing (the one I specifically knitted to match the colors of the cover of Resistance), then you might be interested to know that you can get one of your own! I always participate in the Brenda Novak Auction for Diabetes Research, and one of my offerings this year is all three of the Replica books (including an ARC of Revolution, which doesn’t come out until November) as well as another hand-knitted shawl just like the one I’m wearing, although in different colors. The auction lasts throughout the month of May, and there are many, many fabulous and unique items available. Please help support a worthy cause and make some bids!

That’s about all my RT-deadened brain can handle. Here’s hoping that next year, we can get even MORE Dames at RT!

About Dame Jenna

Jenna Black got her BA in physical anthropology from Duke University. She dreamed she’d be the next Jane Goodall, camping in the bush making discoveries about primate behavior. But then she did some research in the field and made this shocking discovery: primates spend about 80% of their time doing exciting things like sleeping and eating. Concluding this discovery was her life’s work in the field of primatology, she moved on to such jobs as grooming dogs and writing technical documentation. She writes urban fantasy for Bantam Dell and young adult urban fantasy for St. Martin’s.
